Krista Chael
The concern of my artistic project lies in imagining the evolutionary possibilities of socio-technological interactions, examining the way we unconsciously reconstruct them for comprehension. This necessarily involves an inquiry into the physiological conditions of perception, and the symbolic manifestations of infinite data. Foucault once pointed out that "the fictitious is never in things or in people, but in the impossible verisimilitude of what lies in between them: encounters the proximity of what is most distant, the absolute dissimulation in our very midst. Therefore fiction consists not in showing the invisible, but in showing the extent to which the invisibility of the visible is invisible."
My work plays with the elasticity between systems of proximity; the near and remote revealed in places and ideologies. These include a mixture of media narratives, fantastical locations, places designated as 'natural', and the production of events and ideas that appear self-contained.
