Tracey Prehay

My point of departure is an exploration of the way cultural symbols are created, with specific reference to fixed cultural representation of women. My current series considers socio-polemic issues, in relation to the body and the construction of the self in contemporary Western discourse. Informed by the vocabularies of popular culture (i.e. fashion, architecture, textile and community activism), my work explores personal/cultural memory through the creation of narrative based textile and community workshops.
