The work of Julie Scheurweghs tends to have a photographic base, but goes far beyond what is merely depicted. The Images she makes and works which are often used in a way that is not commonly linked to photographic practices. Photography is generally shown in a straight line, either on a wall or in the form of a book. Both ways force a specific sequence on to the viewer, making sure you go from point A to point D without missing B and C. Scheurweghs however finds it more inspiring when you are free to roam trough an exhibition, going from one work to another, and in doing so, creating unique links between different pieces of art. More specifically, she comes up with interesting sculptures like methods of presentation who are set up in an open ‘parcours’ aimed at giving the viewer a new perspective on everyday objects and scenes. By doing this Scheurweghs tries to show us that beauty and happiness are not only to be found by seeking everything that’s big and new, but also in looking at the everyday from a different perspective.
