The work of Ju Underwood derives from her research into the content of emotional abstraction and exchange. Underwood is fascinated by the subtext, the hidden codes and communications of human existence.

The realization of Underwood’s work has evolved from her background in Architecture and Fashion; relationships between psychological and physical conditions are explored via examination of the materiality and immateriality of the body and mind, and the spaces they occupy, external and internal to ourselves.

She works towards the production of individual works or installations in painting, sculpture, film, and music/sound, which act as a means of physically representing increments, or transitional points, of emotional transformation.
